Personal Journey

Background

I'm Matyas Mayo.

My family's roots range from rally racing champions to construction, but music has always been part of who we are. My great-grandfather in Hungary played the cimbalom, and my grandmother on my dad's side played the piano.

Music

I never mastered an instrument — I spent most of my life swimming, which eventually took me to the University of Utah where I competed as a Division I athlete. Even so, music has always been my biggest passion. Most of my closest friends were musicians, and I loved being in the studio — not making the music, but throwing out ideas, talking through concepts, and helping move the vision forward. I'm usually the DJ Khaled of the room.

Now that I live in New York City, I know this is the industry I want to build my career in. I love working with artists who are still building — the ones with a real vision and the drive to match it. I want to help get their name out there through marketing, creative direction, branding, and strategy. I want to grow alongside the artists I work with, wherever that takes us.

Other work

I've had the chance to work on film sets, act in independent film projects, and contribute to projects around the NBA. Those experiences have only reinforced that music is where I feel most at home.

I may not have the traditional industry experience yet because I haven't had the opportunity, but one thing I can promise is that I'll figure things out. I've always believed hard work beats experience when you're willing to learn, and I bring that mindset into everything I do.

Outside of work, I'm a huge NBA fan, play pickup basketball whenever I can, and still carry the discipline I learned as a Division I athlete.

Why this

At the end of the day, I just genuinely love music.

I'm excited to keep learning, gain more experience, meet great people, and do whatever I can to be part of an industry I care so much about.
